six types of dance dudes.

This week was my first week of classes for summer term. Throughout my time in college, I have taken 3 dance classes. Having loved them all, I decided to take another one this term just for kicks. Now having been in 4 dance classes, it's safe to say that I know the kind of guys who sign up for dance. There are some pretty special guys in this class particularly. Let me walk through them briefly to paint the picture:

Type 1: The hot guy. There is always one or two hot guys in the class who are basically there to pick up girls. I always try to become partners with them early. It makes dance class SO much better.

Type 2: The know it all guy. There is always that one guy who knows exactly what he is doing, and will tell you exactly what you are doing wrong. Likes to be in control. Normally unattractive.

Type 3: The clueless guy. There is always one or two guys who have absolutely no idea what they are doing. And they are extremely hard to dance with.

Type 4: The shy guy. There is always a shy guy. The guy in my class turns bright red and I think he stays red the entire hour. However, they always really know how to dance, despite how shy they are.

Type 5: The creeper guy. There is always one creeper. And I have the ultimate in my class. He will just stare at you until you switch partners. No joke. And he wears terrible cologne.

Type 6: The friend guy. There is always around 3 guys who I feel comfortable dancing with because 1. we are around the same height, 2. they know what they are doing, and 3. they are easy to talk to. I always go for the friend to test and compete with at the end of the semester for a grade.

Okay so now that you know the rundown, this is how my first week of dance went. I have this class MTWT so plenty of time to get to know these guys.

Day 1: Found 2 decent looking guys in the class. Danced with both. Success. First encounter with know it all.

Day 2: Danced with all 6 types of guys. Made a mental note of who my guy friend was going to be for testing (that's right, I plan ahead.)

Day 3: Okay, so I came to class like 5 minutes early. I was talking to a girl I had met, when I felt someone tapping on my shoulder. I turn around to find that know it all is asking me to dance so we can get some practice in. So I had to dance with know it all with about 2 other couples while the whole class watched us for 5 minutes. I don't plan on coming to class early ever again.

Day 4: So in this class, we all dance in a circle, and rotate partners clockwise. So my rotation was all six types in a row. First was the hot guy, and that was perfect. Next was the shy guy, which I didn't mind because he's super sweet and knows what he's doing. Next was the friend. I thought I was super lucky getting all these guys in a row. I was hoping it would continue. Next I got the clueless guy, which wasn't bad, except we were learning a new step and we didn't quite get it down. After him was the hot guy, and I was getting really nervous because 1. he was the hot guy 2. I didn't get the step we just learned and I didn't want to look like an idiot and 3. behind him was the know it all guy who I really was trying to avoid dancing with. When we were done dancing, I said, "thanks ben!" and he was like "actually, my name is ____" I was super embarrassed that I had called him the wrong name and now I was partners with know it all. Things went downhill from there. He went on to critique me and then creeper was next in line. The teacher must have seen the terror in my eyes because that was the quickest rotation we ever had in class. I seriously danced with creeper for 10 seconds. I like to think that the teacher was looking out for me.

So that was my first week of dance class. I'm sure I will have plenty of stories from this class and tomorrow is Day 5. Wish me luck!

Ok, I laughed so hard about your types. It's funny, I only took one dance class for school, and we didn't have very many guys, but....from spying on other dance classes, I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! Haha!
